So, my friend DJ Metronome stopped by with a classic boom box.

Guess what was in the tape deck?

Gaberealistic - Take A Look Back Vol.1 (2000)

This was a classic Hip Hop tape I made on the trusty old Tascam 4-track.
The mixing was live, the remixes were layered. Pretty much push record
and go. Some of my favorite Hip Hop songs on this one.

The cover was actually a picture of a mixer box, I re-worded some
things to fit in with the mix. This concept was also used with a scratch
record I put out in 2004?

Since the Root Down will be back at the Gabah for 3 Thursdays in June, figure
I would post this up. I was involved in the club when it first started at
The Gabah. I was a DJ and a promoter. The pictures below are of the mailers we
sent out. It was my job to get copies, put addresses on, and mail them out.

I believe I brought my turntables for the club too. I would throw
down small sets here and there. It was a good time. My involvement
came from me knowing Carlos' sister (DJ Soluz). It was the beginning of a L.A. staple.

This was made Christmas of 2005. In my record store, Stacks Vinyl
Ontario. Wow, my store has been closed for over 3 years now.
(thats a whole other story) I found this loop on some Christmas Disco
Duck record that had a dope break. Sorry, don't remember the album,
and its in my storage unit with the rest of my vinyl, and thats gonna
take a long time to go thru.

Old Beats from 1995

I finally dug up some old tapes from 1995 or so. These beats were made on
a Akai S01 and a Roland R8 drum machine. The drum machine triggered
and sequenced the samples from the Akai S01. Some of these might have
been sequenced on a Roland MC50. This is the oldest stuff i could find at
the moment. I have more tapes with beats from 1993 somewhere I have to
find. They were made on a Akai s612, a DJ mixer, keyboard, and 2 tape decks.

Recorded at Stacks Ontario 2006.

This was made while Stacks Ontario was open for business. Ethos mixed half and I mixed

half. We also went back and forth with the scratching. There is a few remixes on here that

came out really cool, only available on this mix. We have some other stuff we will

drop soon. This mix was sold or given out by Ethos on a tour or something in 2006.

So, back when I had my record store Universal records used to do conference calls about
new groups and artist. DJ Stealth connected me with the whole thing, it was cool but most
of the music I didnt like, this was when Soldier Boy was just dropping. They were doing a

remix contest for this song and figured I would give it a try. To be eligible to win you had

to send in feedback about the music we were sent, 90% was garbage and I got tired of

listening to it. So this whole project fizzled out.

I made this in 2007 and just finally put the finishing
touches on it. I changed it into that classic 90's Dancehall sound. MORE FIRE!
It was made in Sonar, all original, no loops or presets. I played the guitar on this

as well. Very basic stuff, but I think it worked out well.

I'll let you be the judge.

The original version is on the video below, check it out to se the difference.

Ok, a few of use on Twitter were talking about the scene being in a
bad state. So I decided to through out a idea of a mix CD that
we could promote(give out free) at "Rock The Bells" in Los Angeles.
Its really not in L.A., but its in the Inland Empire.

This mix is going to be funded by the people that are contributing
a song. So each song a person or group submits will be charged a fee.
The fee is between $20 to $30 per song. This fee depends on how many
people pitch in. The more people involved, the less each will have to pay.
If you pitch in more than one song, you pay more than once.

Right now its at $30 if 15 people pitch in. This is very cheap for what you
are getting. 1000 CDs given out for free with your song on it. Each artist
will be given a certain amount to give out. This will benefit all parties due
to the fact that everyone will be promoting everyone else. So you get more
exposure from different peoples habits and styles of promotion.

The main focus of this mix is to promote at "Rock the Bells". This is not a
"offical" or sanctioned mix for "Rock the Bells". Its more or less a gorilla type
promotion. We go there and pass them out to worthy Hip Hop heads.
This is a team effort. We all pitch in on cost, we all pitch in on the work.

I know some people won't be going to RTB, so we have to decide what
percent of CD's will be going to RTB for promotion. I will be there for this
promo. We will also try our hardest to get this CD back stage and in the hands
of the performers. The main goal is reaching the "Fans". Hip Hop needs more
fans, not performers.

We will also be blogging the crap out of this release. I have several blogs that
will be posting this mix. So the coverage should be good on this, we will reach
far beyond the targeting 1000 CDs. This is a very unique way of promoting on
a street level/gross roots type of deal. This is for us, by us.

We already have several people/groups submitting material. For now, we are
not excepting any new submissions. We already have the targeting amount of
songs. There will be some that fall out, and when that happens we will except
new submissions.

The targeted deadline to submit a song is Wednesday July 15th. This will give
me 1o days to complete the mix. We really need to try to meet this.
I would like to have time to listen and plan out a good mix.
The deadline to submit the CD for replication is July 24th.
RTB is August 8th.

IMPORTANT! People that submit songs MUST pay the fee! This will serious
handicap this project if you don't support. If you don't pay, you won't make the
CD. Myself, "DJ Gabe Real" will be taking the fee's. I am NOT profiting from
this! I am actually loosing money on this. If you don't trust me, don't even
bother with this project.

When I mean Mix CD, I mean a DJ mix of all the songs, not some dude
yelling over it or a bunch of rappers over Lil Wayne beats. Get familar

This is one of the first tracks I Made on my SP1200. Dvooa was in my studio
working on his album "Mental Leakage" and I played this beat. He started this
verse and it became a remix to one of the songs on the album. Jimetta was there
with him, so I asked if she wanted to get on it too. This was made in my
studio at my record store(Stacks) in Ontario, California. Another great memory
of that place from 2005. Oh, I really miss that place.

well. to say it in a more "PC" way, I was the first DJ/Artist to play at coachella this
year, 2009. it was the pre-party for the campers.
to put it short, i rocked it! I had about 3 different sets lined up.

dance/electro
breaks/funk/rock

i did the electro set, there was a CD playing before i went on and it
was some old minimal house stuff.we had to wait for Paul McCartney to be done
with sound check. so there was just music playing low then they turned it up,
people started dancing, so i just kept the vibe going.
sorry to toot my own horn, but it was a great experience, and I rocked
the hell out of Torq! trigger finger and all, and people looking at
the macbook of course, to see that I wasnt using serato :)
big up to the guys from Temple of Boom, they were running
"The Dome" at coachella.Sam XL Vs XXXL & Pablo Hassan
killed it on the dub step!

it was alot of fun, this is actually the second time for me at coachella.
i DJ'ed for MC supernatural back in 2001 or 2002, we opened for the roots.
now, that was something else, main stage action that time, man-o-man!

part 2 - friday night afterhours!

i dont usually record my live sets, i DJ quite often so alot of stuff
turns into a blur after awhile. i played alot shows in the last 20
years, from little garages to huge things like coachella. maybe i
should start recording my live sets. i would go back and make a
"cover" mix of the playlist but that wouldn't be near as cool
and kind of strange. i do have mixes online and free to download though.
i have always just enjoyed DJing and never really tried to become
a big name DJ, i just love DJing and rocking crowds. now i think
im going to step my game up. im a side show superstar, to put it
short.

so, i went back on friday night to DJ. i did 2 sets,
the first one was reggae, the second one was electro house
or whatever you call it. they had to clear everybody out of
the concert before we could start the after hours, we didn't
get started till after 1am and went till after 4am. this was
a afterhours for campers only. as soon as i dropped my first song
they opened the gate and people came running to the dome.
it was crazy, hundreds of people running towards me screaming
while i DJ. what a experience, i haven't got much sleep this weekend.
actually, Busy P and his crew were supposed to do the after hours, they
didnt want to hang around, so i got to rock it again with Big Sam from Temple of Boom.
i guess one of the guys from daftpunk was there too, oh well.

Ok, here is my project that I finished a few months back but never got
audio samples done. Basically its a 8 channel public address mixer that
I modified. The mod made it possible to have a control knob for the
input gain and output volume of each channel(8 separate outputs & inputs).
I got the audio samples done, so I decided to post them
up here. I played the drums, I'm not the greatest player in
the world, but hey, its just a sample of the preamp.

Drums-
Gretsch 12inch maple Catalina tom. (Mic used Senn. MD421)

Gretsch 22inch Birch Catalina Kick drum. (Mic used AKG D112)

Ludwig Aluminum Supra Phonic snare 5x14. (Mic used Beyer M201)

XS Sabian Hi Hats. (the weak link in the set) (Mic used Oktava Mk219

(Neumann TLM 103 for the drum overhead mic)

Analog to Digital converter used- Lynx Auroa 16 thru AES16pci (soundcard)

recorded into computer using Sonar 8.
On a PC with Windows XP.

From mics to Altec, then right out of Altec, directly into converters.
(5 separate tracks)

Recording in a living room with no acoustic treatments at all!

Altec 1678c notes-
All mic preamp inputs were set at there lowest level, its a little too hot coming
in from the mics. I need to get some -10 db pads to put on the mic cables.
The mic placement was done in way to stop it from clipping and distorting.
So I had to play around for a hour or so to get the sound right, its ok though.
The pads will let me mic things closer and get more flexible with placement.

Ok, I'm back, first post of 2009. This is a well overdue update to
my "Mega Mixes". Its #2 for my Ultra Fridays series. Its a ruff
idea of the stuff I play at Ultra Fridays. Its at Sevilla Riverside, before
that it was at Incahoots in Riverside. It used to be called Club Culture,
back when it was one of the hottest Underground Hip Hop spots
around. I rocked the patio, and Dj Cre-8 played inside.I have been
involved with this club for over 10 years. Its way different now,
but it still jumps off. Sorry, I don't play Hip Hop there anymore.
There is nobody that likes it, so I just rock the crowd in a different way.

Dj Gabe Real - Electro-House mix

It came out ok, so I'm gonna share it with you.
Its 18 tracks, about 50 minutes long. It is a zip file
of MP3s with correct tags and play order. Just unzip the

any other media player. It will play continuous with
no gaps, at least it does in itunes. This way you can

Nightclub Bar Security

Bouncers are most visible aspect of security in a nightclub or bar is the often the huge guys working in a club. The proper application of bouncers and doormen as part of a nightclub and bar security plan are important. Inadequate security procedures could contribute to the Death of a Nightclub.

Doormen

The doorman or door-host is the first person the patron sees and sets the tone for the style and attitude of the club. Some clubs employ burly-looking guys who set the tone of the "Barbary Coast" days in San Francisco where bothersome patrons would be forcibly thrown out into the street. Other clubs use well-dressed ladies and gentlemen to make patrons feel like they have entered a nightclub with dignity and class.

The true function of a doorman is to provide access control for a busy nightclub and screen those that enter. A doorman is traditionally the person who stands at the door and checks IDs to assure that each patron is of age to legally enter the establishment and is dressed appropriately. In some urban clubs, doormen use metal detectors and pat downs procedures where the format attracts mostly young people and has an expectation of finding weapons. Another function of a doorman is to prevent admittance to those that are obviously intoxicated or who have previously caused trouble inside the club. Most clubs have an "86" policy where objectionable patrons are barred from returning to the club for some designated period of time. Depending on the club, a doorman can be used to collect cover charges, tickets, or direct patrons to tables.

In addition to normal doorman duties, some nightclubs use the door staff to monitor patron conduct on the sidewalk as well as inside the club. The nature of this additional task can lead to confrontations with aggressive nightclub patrons if not handled professionally. Obviously, more training and experience is required as the doorman becomes more assertive and begins to assume more security-like duties. Most busy nightclubs begin to have problems at the door when too many duties are heaped on to an inexperienced and poorly trained doorman.

Bouncers

Bouncers are an enigma. The term bouncer presents an image of a brawler who will break up fights and forcibly eject obnoxious patrons. Bouncers are often portrayed in movies as tough, thug-like scrappers who love to fight, like in the movie “Road House”. Many nightclubs foster that image by hiring over-sized ex-jocks, wrestlers, or martial artists to handle drunken or out of control patrons. Usually these bouncers have little experience and receive no real formal training in criminal or civil law that they must apply. See my web page Bouncers Need Training. In a crisis, these inexperienced bouncers will be forced to rely on their own common sense and instincts to solve a problem. This can be a scary concept.

The duty of a bouncer is to monitor the crowd to see that everyone behaves. The goal should be to see that everyone has a good time, but within established limits. The best bouncers are personable, friendly and can talk to patrons without appearing threatening or intimidating. The best bouncers don’t bounce anyone…they talk to people. The mere presence of a well-trained bouncer will remind the patron that their conduct is being scrutinized and that their patronage can be revoked.

Floor Men

A better job title for a bouncer might be floor man or floor person. In the UK you often hear the titles of Head Doorman or Cooler. A nightclub is about the business of providing hospitality where people can come to relax, unwind, and have a good time. A good floor man will manage the patrons inside a club and will see to it that no one becomes overly aggressive and spoils the party. A well-trained floor man will circulate throughout the club, be highly visible, and be easily identifiable as a club employee. The floor man should continually evaluate the conduct and attitudes of each patron and watch for changes behavior. Let’s face it, drinking alcohol in a nightclub setting is designed to remove inhibitions and subtle behavior changes are expected. A floor man's job is to recognize the negative behavior changes and begin to manage the patron. Good floor men will use eye contact and body language to let troublesome patrons know that their conduct is reaching the threshold for unacceptable behavior.

Rule Enforcement

It is up to the nightclub to set conduct limits and then require the floor man to evenly and fairly enforce those rules. The best run clubs enforce rules and do so immediately. A well-timed and discreet comment from the floor man about offensive language or noise level is all that is necessary, in most cases, to resolve objectionable behavior. Sometimes, second reminders are necessary followed by warnings that further conduct will result in being asked to leave the premises. Any patron who aggressively rejects a reasonable request to behave should be asked to leave. Remember though that rule violations are not the same as crimes.You can’t manhandle patrons or physically take someone into custody for violating a club rule.

The biggest mistake a floor man can make is to ignore a patron who has become a nuisance and hope that they will either calm down or leave on their own. The worst case scenario can occur when another patron is forced to confront an overly aggressive customer on their own because the floor man was oblivious to the situation. Ultimately, the situation becomes explosive, a fight breaks out, and the floor men are forced to physically separate and eject the brawlers. This is not only bad business, but can become dangerous for everyone involved.

Patron Ejection

Having to eject a patron from a nightclub doesn't always mean that the floor man did not manage them properly earlier in the evening. Sometimes people come into a nightclub just looking for trouble, or can’t handle alcohol, or can’t interact socially with others. Sometimes, patrons bring their outside anger inside the club and no one knows about it until violence erupts. These people need to be asked to leave the club by the floor man as soon as their hostile conduct becomes evident.

No one likes to be asked or told to leave an establishment, especially if they paid a cover charge to get in. If a floor man has reminded the guest several times about their conduct then it will come as no surprise when finally asked to leave. If the patron is taken aside and discreetly told about the decision, the likelihood of an aggressive exchange is reduced. There is nothing worse than having a big bouncer-type approach a young man, in front of his friends, and tell him to leave. After embarrassing this young man, you are guaranteed to get a verbal barrage of insults and foul language that may escalate into a physical fight.

If it becomes necessary to escort an aggressive patron to the door, floor men should be well trained to do so. For safety purposes, a rule of thumb is to have at least one more floor man present than the number of people being escorted out. Unless a patron has committed a crime, floor men are generally not allowed to use physical force. This is not to say that you cannot slightly touch a patron to guide, direct, or block re-entry. Force should only be used in self-defense or for the purpose of detaining a criminal for the police. Punching, kicking, tackling, dragging, or putting someone in a choke hold are all inappropriate methods for floor men to remove someone from a nightclub. Unlike the movie "Road House" it is never appropriate for a floor man to punch a patron out of anger or because of a challenge to fight.

Escorting a patron out of a nightclub involves the use of professional verbal commands and a polite explanation of why they are being asked to leave. If a patron has been dutifully warned previously, then it will be of no surprise. If the conduct of the patron was obviously inappropriate, then likewise it should be clear why they are being escorted out. If the patron has been over-served and is intoxicated the ejection request may be more difficult.

If a floor man is expected to consistently enforce the rules, there can be only two ejection choices for the patron. Either leave the premises quickly and quietly or be arrested by the police. Once a patron has been asked to leave by the proprietor, they become subject to trespass laws if they fail to leave. In some states, trespassers can be removed from the premises using minimal holding force. Typically this involves one bouncer holding each arm while leading the trespasser from the club. Floor men must be prepared to take a little verbal abuse if a patron is asked to leave. Likewise, floor men should consider a refund of the cover charge, if any, for ejected patrons to remove that point of contention. If the patron becomes combative they may become subject to assault and battery charges and it goes down hill from there.

The floor man should be certain that the ejected patron understands that they must leave the premises immediately or be subject to arrest by the police. If the ejected patron attacks a floor man, reasonable force can be used in self-defense. Reasonable force can also be used to take an assaillant in to custody for the police. If you do this, it is important to actually file criminal charges or risk for false imprisonment lawsuit. Under no circumstances should excessive force be used. Headlocks and pain compliance techniques (i.e. arm twisting, wrist locks) are not appropriate ways of escorting a rule-violator from a club. Chokeholds and sleeper holds should never be used except in life threatening scenarios. Floor men should also use care when taking a patron down to the floor, handcuffing, and piling on top. Intoxicated or overweight persons have died from positional asphyxiation from too much body weight pressing them to the floor.

Customer Fights

If two or more customers mutually get into a fistfight, they must be removed from the club immediately for everyone’s safety. The question is how to do it safely? The old fashioned method was to throw both parties out into the street and let them duke-it-out for themselves is wrong. The correct method is to delay the ejection of the more passive offender, if possible, until the more aggressive co-combatant has completely vacated the property. The reason for this is that it is foreseeable that two people who were engaged in a fight inside will continue the assault outside. The nightclub floor men have no legal basis for detaining someone unless a crime has been committed and cannot hold someone who wishes to leave voluntarily and continue to fight. However, the floor men has a duty to be reasonable and see that known offenders have left the property and to call the police if they know a fight is about to occur or if one combatant requests it.

To fight police abuse effectively you need to know your rights. There are some things you should do, some things you must do and some things you cannot do. If you are in the middle of a police encounter, you need a handy and quick reference to remind you what your rights and obligations are.

Print this page and carry it in your wallet, pocket, or glove compartment to give you quick access to your rights and obligations concerning police encounters.

Think carefully about your words, movement, body language, and emotions.

Don't get into an argument with the police.

Remember, anything you say or do can be used against you.

Keep your hands where the police can see them.

Don't run. Don't touch any police officer.

Don't resist even if you believe you are innocent.

Don't complain on the scene or tell the police they're wrong or that you're going to file a complaint.

Do not make any statements regarding the incident. Ask for a lawyer immediately upon your arrest.

Remember officers' badge and patrol car numbers.

Write down everything you remember ASAP.

Try to find witnesses and their names and phone numbers.

If you are injured, take photographs of the injuries as soon as possible, but make sure you seek medical attention first.

If you feel your rights have been violated, file a written complaint with police department's internal affairs division or civilian complaint board.

1. What you say to the police is always important. What you say can be used against you, and it can give the police an excuse to arrest you, especially if you bad-mouth a police officer.

2. You must show your driver's license and registration when stopped in a car. Otherwise, you don't have to answer any questions if you are detained or arrested, with one important exception. The police may ask for your name if you have been properly detained, and you can be arrested in some states for refusing to give it. If you reasonably fear that your name is incriminating, you can claim the right to remain silent, which may be a defense in case you are arrested anyway.

3. You don't have to consent to any search of yourself, your car or your house. If you DO consent to a search, it can affect your rights later in court. If the police say they have a search warrant, ASK TO SEE IT.

4. Do not interfere with, or obstruct the police -- you can be arrested for it.

IF YOU ARE STOPPED FOR QUESTIONING

1. It's not a crime to refuse to answer questions, but refusing to answer can make the police suspicious about you. If you are asked to identify yourself, see paragraph 2 above.

2. Police may "pat-down" your clothing if they suspect a concealed weapon. Don't physically resist, but make it clear that you don't consent to any further search.

3. Ask if you are under arrest. If you are, you have a right to know why.

4. Don't bad-mouth the police officer or run away, even if you believe what is happening is unreasonable. That could lead to your arrest.

IF YOU'RE STOPPED IN YOUR CAR

1. Upon request, show them your driver's license, registration, and proof of insurance. In certain cases, your car can be searched without a warrant as long as the police have probable cause. To protect yourself later, you should make it clear that you do not consent to a search. It is not lawful for police to arrest you simply for refusing to consent to a search.

2. If you're given a ticket, you should sign it; otherwise you can be arrested. You can always fight the case in court later.

3. If you're suspected of drunk driving (DWI) and refuse to take a blood, urine or breath test, your driver's license may be suspended.

IF YOU'RE ARRESTED OR TAKEN TO A POLICE STATION

1. You have the right to remain silent and to talk to a lawyer before you talk to the police. Tell the police nothing except your name and address. Don't give any explanations, excuses or stories. You can make your defense later, in court, based on what you and your lawyer decide is best.

2. Ask to see a lawyer immediately. If you can't pay for a lawyer, you have a right to a free one, and should ask the police how the lawyer can be contacted.Don't say anything without a lawyer.

3. Within a reasonable time after your arrest, or booking, you have the right to make a local phone call: to a lawyer, bail bondsman, a relative or any other person. The police may not listen to the call to the lawyer.

4. Sometimes you can be released without bail, or have bail lowered. Have your lawyer ask the judge about this possibility. You must be taken before the judge on the next court day after arrest.

5. Do not make any decisions in your case until you have talked with a lawyer.

IN YOUR HOME

1. If the police knock and ask to enter your home, you don't have to admit them unless they have a warrant signed by a judge.

2. However, in some emergency situations (like when a person is screaming for help inside, or when the police are chasing someone) officers are allowed to enter and search your home without a warrant.

3. If you are arrested, the police can search you and the area close by. If you are in a building, "close by" usually means just the room you are in.

We all recognize the need for effective law enforcement, but we should also understand our own rights and responsibilities -- especially in our relationships with the police. Everyone, including minors, has the right to courteous and respectful police treatment.

If your rights are violated, don't try to deal with the situation at the scene. You can discuss the matter with an attorney afterwards, or file a complaint with the Internal Affairs or Civilian Complaint Board.

Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Amendment II
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Amendment III
No soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.

Amendment IV
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Amendment V
No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

Amendment VI
In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the state and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the assistance of counsel for his defense.

Amendment VII
In suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise reexamined in any court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.

Amendment VIII
Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

Amendment IX
The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

Amendment X
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.
